Type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, monogenic diabetes, insulin pump patients

Internal Medicine
COPD/asthma, hypertension and conditions involving liver, cardiovascular and haematological systems

Endocrinology
Disorders in thyroid, calcium, bone, pituitary, lipids, reproductive hormones. We also offer weight management consultations.

Nephrology
Renal disease, proteinuria / hematuria, abnormal renal function, electrolyte abnormalities, metabolic work up for recurrent renal stones, resistant or suspected secondary hypertension

Young Adult and Pediatric Endocrinology
Growth concerns, early and delayed puberty, premature adrenarche, obesity, hypothyroidism (congenital and acquired), hyperthyroidism, thyroid nodules, dyslipidemia, diabetes mellitus, bone health, adrenal conditions, gender – menstrual suppression only, menstrual irregularity and menstrual concerns

Dr. Joanna Holland MD, FRCPC
ENDOCRINOLOGIST
Dr. Holland is originally from Kelowna, B.C. She completed her medical school training in the Northern Medical Program located in Prince George, B.C. She went on to complete her internal medicine residency in St. John’s, Newfoundland, followed by her Endocrinology fellowship in Edmonton, Alberta. She has been practicing as an endocrinologist in Calgary since 2015, working at various community endocrinology/diabetes clinics around the city, and is now proud to open DIMEC to provide endocrinology and diabetes services in southeast Calgary.

Dr. Chi Diep MD, FRCPC
GENERAL INTERNAL MEDICINE SPECIALIST
Dr. Diep completed medical school at the University of Calgary in 2008. After her internal medicine residency at the University of Saskatchewan and GIM fellowship at the University of Alberta, she returned to Calgary in 2014 and began her medical practice. She specializes in diabetes, obesity, and complex internal medicine conditions including cardiology, respirology, and endocrinology.

Dr. Michelle McDowell MD, FRCPC
GENERAL INTERNAL MEDICINE SPECIALIST
Dr. Michelle McDowell graduated from the 4-year internal medicine residency program at the University of Calgary. She is American Board certified in obesity medicine.
Since graduation, Dr. McDowell has practiced outpatient clinical care with a focus on multi-system diseases such as cardiovascular risk stratification, hypertension, diabetes, anemia, lipid management, renal dysfunction, chronic lung diseases and obesity.
When she is not practicing medicine, she can be found reading, hiking, and spending time with her four dogs.

Dr. Magdalena Sarna MD, FRCPC
GENERAL INTERNAL MEDICINE SPECIALIST
NEPHROLOGISTDr. Magdalena Sarna is a General Internal Medicine specialist and clinical assistant professor at the University of Calgary. She has a special interest in vascular health, kidney disease and hypertension.
Dr. Sarna has a Master of Science degree in medical genetics from the University of Calgary. She completed medical school, internal medicine residency and nephrology fellowship at the University of Calgary. Dr. Sarna has previously authored peer-reviewed journal articles on vascular physiology and blood pressure. She has subspecialty certification in both Nephrology and General Internal Medicine (Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada). She is a Certified Hypertension Specialist (CHS) through the American Hypertension Specialist Certification Program (AHSCP).

Dr. Kate Potter MD, FRCPC
YOUNG ADULT / PEDIATRIC ENDOCRINOLOGIST
Dr. Potter completed her MD and her PhD in diabetes at the University of British Columbia. She did her pediatrics residency in Calgary and her pediatric endocrinology fellowship in Edmonton. She has been working in Calgary in community pediatric and young adult endocrinology since 2019.
Outside of work, her passions are ballet, almost any type of winter sport, travel, and being in the mountains or by the ocean.

Sarah Sun - BScPharm, CDE, CPT, BCGP
DIABETES EDUCATOR, PUMP TRAINER
After completing her Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy from the University of Alberta, Sarah began work in an independent community pharmacy where she gained an interest in diabetes. She became a Certified Diabetes Educator in 2012 and received her Board Certified Geriatric Pharmacy designation in 2014. She also has Advanced Prescribing Authority and is a Certified Pump Trainer. She enjoys working with her patients to optimize their diabetes control and develop the skills to manage on their own.
When not in clinic, Sarah enjoys spending time with her family, painting and curling up with a good book.

Farah Mussa - Bsc Pharm, CRE, CBE, CDE, APA
DIABETES AND BARIATRIC EDUCATOR
Farah is a 2006 University of Alberta graduate and has had the pleasure of working as a pharmacy manager at London Drugs Ltd. and as a clinical pharmacist with Calgary West Central Primary Care Network. Farah was also appointed a chairperson in the Diabetes Canada diabetes educator section for health care providers.
She has been working as a clinical pharmacist consultant for over 8 years, including as a certified diabetes, respiratory and bariatric educator as well as a tobacco cessation specialist. Given the diverse nature of her work, she has acquired a strong appreciation for a comprehensive and team based approach to patient care.
Farah has found that working as a clinical pharmacist has refined her interpersonal skills in order to effectively collaborate with physicians and other health care providers in a clinical environment. Alongside her colleagues, she works towards formulating medication treatment plans with her patients, particularly in the areas of diabetes and obesity management.
Farah’s true passion, outside of her professional life, is to spend as much time as possible with her family. Life is too short not to celebrate nice moments!

Anna Ho RN
NURSE CLINICIAN
Anna obtained her Bachelor's of Nursing degree from Mount Royal College/ Athabasca University in 2009. She has been working as a Registered Nurse for over 13 years. Her diverse experience ranges from working in acute care on a general medicine unit, and in primary care managing a variety of patients with complex chronic disease conditions. Anna has extensive knowledge in helping individuals with diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity, and lung diseases. Anna is looking forward to working together with patients and the rest of the team at DIMEC in achieving better health outcomes.
Outside from work, Anna is a busy mom to two school aged children. She enjoys spending quality family time, trying out new restaurants, and travelling to sunny destinations.

Chad Healey
MANAGER
Chad was born and raised in St. John’s, NL. There he received his BSc in physics from Memorial University Newfoundland. He has since worked at several academic centres in St. John’s, Edmonton and Calgary as an IT consultant. He is excited to co-own and work as clinic manager at DIMEC. With his strong background in the sciences, technology and public relations, he is a valuable member of the clinical team.

Sunaina Verma
MEDICAL ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT
After completing her MOA certification and post graduation in Health and Human Services Management from Bow Valley, Sunaina began her practice as MOA in 2019.
DIMEC is proud to have Sunaina on board as a vital part of our team. She has exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills to ensure we provide our patients with a consistently positive experience, both over the phone and during their clinic visit.
